Practice 2. Using Coordinating Conjunctions “And,” “But,” “So,” “Or,” and “Or Else” | (Basic)

Instructions

Based on this lesson, combine the sentences to create a new sentence using coordinating conjunctions (and, but, so, or, or else). Pay attention to the use of commas.

   Example: I was tired. I went to sleep.

 Your Sentence:I was tired, so I went to sleep.

Your Sentence:

I need to buy a new car, but I don’t have enough money.

2. I take a shower. I eat breakfast every morning.

Your Sentence:

I take a shower and eat breakfast every morning.

I take a shower, and I eat breakfast every morning.

3. Jake doesn’t eat meat. He eats cheese.

Your Sentence:

Jake doesn’t eat meat, but he eats cheese.

4. It’s raining. The children can’t play outside.

Your Sentence:

It’s raining, so the children can’t play outside.

5. John understands Italian. He cannot speak it very well.

Your Sentence:

John understand Italian, but he cannot speak it very well.

John understands but cannot speak Italian very well.

6. Tonight we can watch a movie. We can listen to music.

Your Sentence:

Tonight we can watch a movie, or we can listen to music.

Tonight we can watch a movie or listen to music.

7. Let’s have dinner. Let’s about our plans tomorrow.

Your Sentence:

Let’s have dinner and talk about our plans tonight.

8. I have to be in class on time. My teacher will get angry.

Your Sentence:

I have to be in class on time, or else my teacher will get angry.

I have to be in class on time, or my teacher will get angry.

9. The baby is crying because he’s hungry. He just needs to go to sleep.

Your Sentence:

The baby is crying because he’s hungry, or else he just needs to go to sleep.

The baby is crying because he’s hungry, or he just needs to go to sleep.

10. It’s cold outside. I’ll stay home. I’ll read a good book.

Your Sentence:

It’s cold outside, so I’ll stay home and read a good book.

11. There’s an exam tomorrow. I need to study. I won’t pass the course.

Your Sentence:

There’s an exam tomorrow, so I need to study, or else I won’t pass the course.

12. Our teacher gives us a lot of work. Everyone loves him.

Your Sentence:

Our teacher gives us a lot of work, but everyone loves him.
