Welcome

Hello, everybody! Whether you are in the northern or southern hemisphere, the fall (or spring) means a change in the weather. That is a good reason to start new learning habits.

Check out what we’ve been cooking up to help you keep learning, practicing, and enjoying the process.

Sneak Peak & Announcements

1. Now We Have Quizzes!

Snap Language has had lessons with exercises for a long time. Starting last summer, they have also had quizzes with scores and feedback!

When you see a link with the “quiz icon” , it means the page includes one or more quizzes. Study the material, then take the quiz to challenge yourself and check your understanding.

You’ll see which answers you missed and get feedback on how to improve. A low score does not mean you’re a bad student. It only means you should review the lesson and try again to see your progress.

Check a quiz out just for fun!

Just for kicks, complete Quiz 4 (in a new tab).

2. Improvements to ESL Passages

You can now read our passages not only for pure enjoyment but also to improve your skills. Passages now have one or more of the following:

  • a reading comprehension quiz to check your understanding,
  • a vocabulary lesson and quiz based on the passage, and
  • a listening activity with audio and listening comprehension questions.

Go to Passages for Language Learners and select your level. Under each passage, icons let you know what materials you will find:

Video Spotlight: Play & Learn

Gamified Lesson Videos

A new series of “Gamified Lesson Videos” started in the late summer. These are videos where you can have some fun testing yourself and learning what you may not know in English.

If you are a member at Ko-Fi, leave a message there letting me know what topics you would be interested in.

Game 1 Posted

I posted the first in the series of gamified lessons mid-August. Editing it was challenging because the video ends up getting very large. Yet, it was fun and I learned new tricks that I can start adding to new videos.

Watch TEST your English and LEARN: prepositions after verbs and leave a comment there if you have any suggestions.

Exclusive Materials for Members!

Lessons, passages, and and videos may now include extra materials for members at the Snap Language Learner tier and above. Look for the “members-only” icon: .

Snap Language Discord❗

All members now have access to the Snap Language Discord. There are channels for community chat, language questions, sharing resources, and more. Consider becoming a member at any tier. You will be added to Discord automatically.

Let’s Make Snap Language successful! 🤜🤛

There are dozens of posts at Ko-Fi.com/snap already. Memberships will make it possible for me to continue creating materials for the YouTube channels and for this website.

You can also help by letting other people know about memberships and how Snap Language Learner can help them with their language skills.

Supporters and Members

I’m grateful to those who were generous enough to support my work financially: John Worther, Duda Fernando, Gerôme Gallantier, and Bảo Sinh Nguyễn.

I’m also very thankful to be able to count on the support from family and friends, particularly Professor Katy Bell, Goose Franco, Ashley Franco, and Ana Claudia da Costa.

Learner’s Corner | Tips and Updates

Tips for ELLs

Starting this fall, I have been posting on Ko-Fi a series of tips on how to use English in your every day life even if you do not always have the opportunity to practice.

These posts are about what you can do to keep immersing yourself in English to improve your skills and confidence. Some tips are so easy to follow that you will wonder why you have not been doing them all along. If you are not a member, consider becoming one at Ko-Fi.com/snap.

Are you a member on Ko-Fi? Leave a comment on Ko-Fi letting me know if you would like a particular passage.

Teacher’s Corner

Materials for Teachers

If you use Snap Language™ materials in your classes or private lessons, be on the lookout for the “for-teachers icon” (e.g., in passages for ELLs.)

I started adding materials for teachers relatively recently. The development of these materials will continue only if there’s genuine interest. My goal is to benefit students, but creating materials takes a great deal of effort, which would go to waste if instructors aren’t using them.

If you’re a teacher wanting to see more, tell me in YouTube comments how I can support your instructional needs. Better yet, if you’re already a member, reach out on the Snap Language Ko-Fi page.
