Combining Phrases and Clauses

Instructions

Based on this lesson about phrases and this lesson about dependent and independent clauses, combine the following dependent clauses with phrases and independent clauses.

Multiple sentences can be correct.

Example 1

That man used to be my teacher.

  • sitting in the back of the room.
  • in high school.

Your Answer: That man sitting in the back of the room used to be my teacher in high school.

Example 2

People believe in ghosts.

  • in the United States
  • nearly half of the people
  • according to a recent study.

Your Answer: According to a recent study, nearly half of the people in the United States believe in ghosts.
